State College, PA – Strong winds and dry air are creating dangerous wildfire conditions across central Pennsylvania, with the worst hitting State College Tuesday into Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected through Tuesday evening, especially along roadways like Route 322. Combined with low humidity levels, these conditions raise the risk of rapid fire spread. Residents should avoid open burning and secure outdoor items that may blow away.

Temperatures will remain spring-like, peaking at 52°F Tuesday and dropping to 31°F overnight. Winds will calm slightly by Wednesday but still gust up to 25 mph, with a high of 44°F expected under partly sunny skies.

Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies and a high of 51°F. Overnight lows will dip to 34°F. By Friday, a slight chance of showers reenters the forecast with highs near 56°F.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday and Sunday will be breezy with scattered showers and highs in the low 60s—more typical of mid-spring. Rain chances increase to 60% by Sunday night into Monday.

Safety Tips:

  • Avoid outdoor burning until winds subside and humidity rises.
  • Watch for blowing debris along open roads.
  • Stay updated through the NWS State College office.

Spotter activation is not expected at this time, but weather conditions may change rapidly. Keep alerts active and plan accordingly for fluctuating spring conditions.
