Erie, PA – A Lake Effect Snow Warning is in effect for Erie and Crawford counties starting Wednesday at 7 a.m. and continuing through Sunday at 7 p.m., with up to 2 feet of snow forecast in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cleveland, initial snowfall accumulations of 12 to 24 inches are expected by Thursday afternoon, with lake-effect snow bands potentially pushing totals higher through the weekend. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated in higher elevation areas of southern and eastern Erie County and northern Crawford County. Wind gusts reaching 35 mph could create blowing snow and dangerous travel conditions.
Rain is predicted to transition to snow early Wednesday morning, with lake-enhanced snow developing by daybreak. After a brief lull Thursday, additional lake-effect snow bands are expected Friday through the weekend.
The NWS warns that travel may be extremely difficult due to snow-covered roads and poor visibility. Morning and evening commutes from Wednesday through Friday are likely to be significantly affected.
Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency supplies such as food, water, and a flashlight in their vehicles. For the latest road conditions, visit 511pa.com.
