Pittsburgh, PA – A sweltering stretch of weather is set to grip western Pennsylvania by midweek, with temperatures expected to spike 10 to 15 degrees above average and multiple cities facing a 70% or greater chance of hitting 90°F by Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, summer-like conditions will peak on June 5, with the highest heat risk centered over Pittsburgh, Wheeling, and Zanesville. The probability of 90-degree temperatures reaches 90% in both Pittsburgh and Wheeling, while Morgantown and New Philadelphia sit at 70%.

City-specific impacts include elevated heat stress for vulnerable groups, especially in urban areas with limited shade. Local emergency officials advise residents to limit outdoor activity, hydrate frequently, and check on elderly neighbors. Workers with outdoor shifts should plan breaks and seek shaded areas during peak sun hours, typically 2 to 6 p.m.

This early-season heatwave will likely persist through Friday before temperatures begin to moderate. Additional heat advisories could be issued if humidity levels climb or overnight lows stay unusually high. Warnings remain in effect through the end of the week.
