Philadelphia, Pa. – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit the Philadelphia area Monday afternoon, bringing possible lightning and downpours just in time for the commute.
According to the National Weather Service, storms could begin after 2 p.m. Monday with a 30% chance of precipitation during the day. The risk rises into Monday night, when a new round of stronger storms could develop after 8 p.m., bringing heavier rainfall and gusty winds. While accumulation amounts remain under a tenth of an inch, higher totals are possible in thunderstorms. East winds around 5 mph will shift during the evening.
Drivers using I-76 and Route 611 should expect reduced visibility and slick roads. Residents should charge mobile devices and avoid outdoor activities after sunset due to lightning potential.
Tuesday ramps up the weather threat with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m., with stronger systems possible during the day. Flash flooding in low-lying areas can’t be ruled out, especially during downpours.
Looking ahead, Philadelphia will dry out by Wednesday with sunny skies and highs near 84°F. Thursday brings summer heat, with a high near 90°F and dry conditions. Friday stays mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80s.
Storms are expected to clear by Tuesday night. Stay weather-aware and check back for updated advisories as new systems build in midweek.
