Harrisburg, Pa. – Flash flooding could swamp roads and low-lying areas across central Pennsylvania Friday afternoon as repeated rounds of thunderstorms drench the region ahead of a slow-moving front.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Flood Watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for nine counties, including Dauphin, Lancaster, York, Cumberland, and Franklin. Rainfall rates may reach 1 to 2 inches per hour, especially where storms repeatedly pass over the same locations.

Communities along creeks and smaller streams—including Hershey, Carlisle, Gettysburg, and Pottsville—are especially at risk. Route 322, U.S. 15, and several borough roads in York and Lebanon counties could see rapid runoff or ponding, especially near underpasses and dips.

Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways, charge devices in case of power outages, and monitor alerts in case a Flash Flood Warning is issued.

Storms are expected to taper off later this evening, but additional rain is possible Saturday. More advisories may follow depending on how the system evolves overnight.
