Harrisburg, Pa. – Flash flooding is threatening parts of central Pennsylvania early Tuesday, with Harrisburg and surrounding communities bracing for rising water on roads and low-lying areas through 4:45 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, thunderstorms are dumping heavy rain over northeastern Cumberland, southwestern Dauphin, east central Perry, and northwestern York counties. Radar estimates up to 1.5 additional inches could fall overnight, leading to dangerous flooding in urban streets, underpasses, and small streams.

Communities including Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Enola, and New Cumberland are at heightened risk, especially near creeks and poorly drained roads. Law enforcement and emergency crews are urging drivers to avoid flooded areas. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains critical guidance—most flood-related deaths happen in vehicles.

Travelers on I-83, Route 15, and other major arteries should expect ponding, delays, or closures. Residents in flood-prone zones should move valuables to higher ground and remain alert to rising water.

This is an evolving threat. Flash Flood Warnings remain in effect until at least 4:45 a.m., with more alerts possible if storms persist into daybreak.
