Pittsburgh, Pa. – An intense stretch of extreme heat is expected to grip Allegheny County and surrounding parts of western Pennsylvania beginning Sunday morning, prompting an Extreme Heat Warning for Pittsburgh and nearby areas until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the warning begins at 11 a.m. Sunday and includes Allegheny County and neighboring communities. A broader Heat Advisory is in place for much of the region, including Butler, Washington, Westmoreland, and Fayette counties. Dangerous heat index values are likely to exceed 100°F during the peak afternoon hours.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and seek air-conditioned shelter. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and pets, are especially at risk. Power grids and cooling centers may see increased strain; check with local municipalities for resources. This heat wave could be the region’s most dangerous stretch so far in 2025.
Extreme heat is expected to persist into midweek, with additional advisories possible. Updates will continue as conditions evolve.
