A winter weather advisory is in place for northern Pennsylvania as ice and snow are expected to develop late Sunday into Monday morning. Travelers on I-78 and I-476 should prepare for potentially hazardous road conditions during the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly, freezing rain and ice accumulation are forecast Sunday night, with totals up to 0.10 inches. Northern areas could also see up to two inches of snow, particularly in regions near Mount Pocono and Allentown. Precipitation will likely begin as rain Sunday evening before transitioning to freezing rain and snow overnight as temperatures drop below freezing.
Monday morning will bring slippery roads and reduced visibility, especially in higher elevations and untreated surfaces. Commuters are urged to allow extra travel time and check road conditions before heading out. While temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by midday Monday, the icy buildup could persist in shaded or less-exposed areas.
The extended forecast shows improving conditions midweek, with partly sunny skies on Tuesday and highs nearing 50 degrees. Rain could return Wednesday evening, making for a wetter end to the workweek.
Drivers are advised to stock their vehicles with emergency supplies, including ice scrapers and blankets, and stay updated on forecasts from the NWS or local officials. Those in northern Pennsylvania should monitor conditions closely for changes in the storm’s path or intensity.
