Pittsburgh, PA – A major winter storm is set to hit southwest Pennsylvania tonight, bringing heavy snow, icy roads, and dangerous travel conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 7 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. Monday.

According to the NWS, the storm is expected to produce total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches and a light glaze of ice. Areas along Interstate 70 and surrounding counties, including Washington, Westmoreland, and Greene, are likely to experience the heaviest snowfall. Travel could become hazardous overnight and during Monday morning’s commute.

Residents are advised to delay non-essential travel. If driving is unavoidable, authorities urge extreme caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, which could become slick quickly. Emergency officials also recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including blankets, water, and a flashlight, in case of delays or accidents.

Snowfall will likely transition to a wintry mix in some areas Monday morning before tapering off in the evening. Gusty winds up to 25 mph may reduce visibility during the heaviest periods of snow.

The region will remain cold through the week, with highs in the 20s and additional snow showers possible Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay updated on weather alerts and conditions through local news channels and the NWS.

Prepare for delays, stock up on essential supplies, and ensure vehicles are winter-ready ahead of the storm’s arrival.
