State College, PA – Bitter cold and hazardous weather conditions are set to grip central Pennsylvania this week, bringing subzero wind chills and strong winds. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning starting Monday at 1 p.m., with gusts reaching 60 mph, potentially leading to power outages and dangerous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chills could drop below -10°F by Tuesday morning, making frostbite a risk in under 30 minutes. Snow showers are possible overnight Sunday into Monday, with icy conditions expected on local roadways, including I-99 and Route 322.
Monday will start with partly sunny skies but quickly turn breezy and frigid, with temperatures barely reaching 23°F. Winds will remain strong through Monday night, with gusts up to 48 mph.
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday will bring some sunshine but remain dangerously cold, with highs near 20°F and nighttime lows in the single digits. Light snow is possible Wednesday night into Thursday.
Residents are urged to secure loose objects, avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind gusts, and prepare for potential power outages.
