Jackson, MS – Motorists traveling in southern Mississippi are urged to exercise caution Monday morning due to a dense fog advisory. Patchy fog could reduce visibility to as little as a quarter mile, especially along I-55 and highways near Vicksburg and Natchez, through 9 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the fog is expected due to recent rainfall and high moisture levels. Drivers are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for travel. Reduced visibility in some areas may result in minor delays during peak morning traffic.
The advisory comes just before Tuesday evening’s highly anticipated harvest supermoon, which coincides with a partial lunar eclipse. Starting at 8:41 p.m. Tuesday, the eclipse will peak at 10:44 p.m. with 8% of the Moon in Earth’s shadow. Though weather conditions will clear by Tuesday night, the foggy conditions could linger for morning commutes. Travelers and skywatchers alike should remain vigilant for any lingering weather effects.
For updates, check the latest forecasts and use caution while on the roads Monday.
