Paducah, Kentucky – Western Kentucky is settling into an unusually warm January pattern, with temperatures climbing steadily through the week and reaching springlike levels by Tuesday before rain chances return.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, highs will rise from the mid to upper 40s Sunday into the mid-50s Monday, then surge into the low to mid-60s Tuesday. This places much of the region well above normal for early January, offering a noticeable break from winter cold. Overnight lows also trend warmer, climbing from near freezing early in the week into the 40s by midweek.
Dry weather dominates through Tuesday, with a mix of sun and clouds across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana. Cities including Paducah, Mayfield, Murray, Cape Girardeau, and Evansville will all feel the warming trend, making for favorable travel and outdoor conditions.
Changes arrive Wednesday night as a frontal system approaches. Rain chances increase overnight Wednesday and continue into Thursday, with periods of rain expected ahead of the front. A few thunderstorms are also possible, though widespread severe weather is not currently anticipated.
The front moves through by Friday, bringing an end to the rain but potentially ushering in slightly cooler air behind it. Even so, temperatures are expected to remain mild overall compared to typical January levels.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the warm and dry start to the week while staying weather-aware for wet conditions mid to late week, especially during overnight and morning travel periods.
