Stevens Pass, Washington – Snow will ramp up quickly after 10 p.m., and drivers crossing Stevens Pass could encounter snowfall rates near 1 inch per hour between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday, creating hazardous conditions through early afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, Western Chelan County including Holden Village, Stehekin and Stevens Pass can expect total accumulations between 2 and 8 inches by 1 p.m. Monday. There is a 40 to 60 percent chance that snowfall rates reach 1 inch per hour during the pre-dawn and morning commute window.
Snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility will impact travel along U.S. Highway 2 at Stevens Pass, particularly during heavier bursts overnight into midmorning Monday.
Farther east, a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at noon Monday for Lookout Pass in Idaho’s Central Panhandle Mountains. Forecasters expect 3 to 6 inches of wet snow through 8 a.m. Tuesday, with a 20 to 30 percent chance of near 1 inch per hour snowfall Monday evening. Variable road conditions are likely after sunset as temperatures cool.
Drivers should slow down, carry traction devices and check WSDOT and Idaho 511 road updates before departure. Additional advisories are possible if snowfall rates exceed projections.
