Florida – Frost glints on windshields and lawns across Central Florida this morning as an unusually sharp cold snap grips the region. For many, this feels more like January in the Deep South than early February in Florida.

According to the National Weather Service, Extreme Cold Warnings and Freeze Warnings remain in effect for parts of Central Florida, including the Orlando area, through mid-morning, with additional freeze headlines returning tonight. Temperatures dipped into the upper 20s early, with wind chills in the teens making it feel even colder before sunrise.

In the Orlando metro, clear skies and northwest winds allowed temperatures to fall quickly. Exposed pipes, sensitive plants, and pets face the highest risk. Drivers may also encounter patchy frost on bridges and shaded roadways, especially along I-4 and local overpasses during the early commute.

Conditions improve gradually during the day. Sunshine helps temperatures rebound into the mid-40s, but cold air lingers after sunset. Another round of frost and freezing temperatures is likely late tonight into early Monday, with lows near 28 degrees in colder inland neighborhoods.

By Monday afternoon, a noticeable shift begins. Highs climb into the mid-50s, then surge into the 60s by Tuesday. By Wednesday, much of Central Florida warms into the 70s under sunny skies, ending the immediate freeze threat.

Looking longer term, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook shows below-normal temperatures easing as February progresses, while much warmer air spreads across the Southeast. Even so, early-week cold snaps remain dangerous. Officials note dozens of cold-related deaths have been reported across the southern U.S. during recent outbreaks.

Protect plants and pets, drip exposed pipes, and limit early-morning travel if frost lingers. Feeling the chill where you are? Tell us how cold it got in your neighborhood.
