Orlando, Florida – A Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory are in effect across parts of east-central Florida as a prolonged stretch of unusually cold air continues to impact the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s overnight, creating freezing conditions across inland portions of central Florida. The coldest temperatures are expected between midnight and 9 a.m. Thursday, with some locations briefly dropping to around 28 degrees.

Counties included in freeze-related alerts include Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Volusia, Okeechobee, inland Brevard, and inland Indian River. A Freeze Warning is in effect for areas most likely to experience freezing temperatures, while surrounding counties remain under a Cold Weather Advisory.

Communities along major travel corridors such as Interstate 4, State Road 417, U.S. Highway 192, Interstate 95, and the Florida Turnpike may experience the coldest conditions during the early morning commute. While winter precipitation is not expected, freezing temperatures can still pose risks to exposed pipes, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor pets.

The National Weather Service advises residents to take protective actions, including bringing pets indoors, covering sensitive plants, allowing faucets to drip, and checking on elderly neighbors. Prolonged cold exposure may also be hazardous for those without adequate heating.

Forecasters note that unusually cold air will persist through the remainder of the week, with an additional reinforcing surge of cold air possible this weekend into early next week. Temperatures may remain below seasonal averages even during the daytime.

Students, early-shift workers, and commuters traveling before sunrise may experience the most significant impacts, particularly in inland and rural locations where temperatures cool more efficiently.

Residents are urged to continue monitoring official forecasts and alerts as conditions evolve and additional advisories or warnings may be issued.
