Portland, OR – Travelers and shoppers preparing for Black Friday in Oregon should brace for dense fog and frosty conditions through Friday morning. A dense fog advisory remains in effect for the Willamette Valley and surrounding lowlands, limiting visibility to a quarter mile or less.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory will last until 11 a.m. Friday, with widespread fog overnight Thursday. Those driving along major routes, including I-5 and OR-99W, are urged to use low-beam headlights, slow down, and maintain safe distances. With freezing temperatures expected in some areas, slick roads may develop during early morning hours.
Thanksgiving night will remain cloudy, with patchy dense fog forming after midnight and a low near 33 degrees. Friday’s high will reach 45 degrees, but morning fog will linger until midday, giving way to partly cloudy skies by afternoon. Winds will remain calm, but drivers should remain cautious through the late morning hours.
Looking ahead, the weekend forecast calls for continued cool temperatures. Saturday morning will bring frost and patchy dense fog before clearing for sunny skies and a high near 46 degrees. Similar conditions are expected Sunday, with widespread frost in the early hours and sunny skies later.
Residents are advised to monitor NWS updates and prepare for reduced visibility while traveling. As dense fog often impacts holiday travel, early planning is key to ensuring safety on the roads.
