Pendleton, OR – A winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall and dangerous travel conditions to eastern Oregon and southern Washington through Friday afternoon. Snow accumulation is expected to reach 3 to 5 inches in some areas, creating difficult driving conditions on major highways, including I-82 and SR-240.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. Friday for the foothills of the Blue Mountains, including Heppner, Pilot Rock, and Pendleton. The Yakima Valley is also under a Winter Weather Advisory, with additional snow expected overnight.

Low visibility and icy roads will make travel hazardous, especially during the morning commute. Officials urge drivers to delay travel if possible. If necessary, travelers should carry emergency kits, including tire chains, blankets, and food.

Looking ahead, light snow may continue into Saturday, with a mix of rain and snow expected in some areas. Temperatures will remain below freezing at night, increasing the risk of icy conditions through the weekend.

Residents should monitor weather updates and drive with caution as the storm moves through the region.
