Eugene, OR – A winter storm is set to bring freezing rain, ice, and snow to central and southern Willamette Valley beginning Wednesday night. The National Weather Service warns that hazardous road conditions and power outages are possible through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, precipitation will start as mixed freezing rain and snow Wednesday night, transitioning to freezing rain on Thursday. Total snow accumulation could reach an inch, with ice buildup of up to a quarter-inch. Travel conditions will be treacherous, especially on bridges and overpasses, and downed power lines may lead to outages.

Thursday’s high will be 42°F, with persistent freezing rain throughout the morning. Winds will remain light, but ice accumulation will make roads slick. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel, dress warmly, and prepare for possible power disruptions.

By Friday, rain will continue, with highs reaching 43°F. A brief break in precipitation is expected Saturday before another system brings rain into Sunday and Washington’s Birthday on Monday.

Drivers should use caution and carry an emergency kit, including flashlights, blankets, and non-perishable food. For updates, visit weather.gov.
