Medford, OR – A powerful winter storm will hit Siskiyou County and surrounding areas Friday afternoon, bringing heavy snow and strong winds through Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 1 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday. The forecast predicts snow accumulations of one to two feet, with some areas, including Mount Shasta, expecting up to three feet. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph, further complicating conditions.
Travelers in impacted regions, including Interstate 5 and Highway 97, should prepare for near-impossible travel due to blowing snow and reduced visibility. Snowfall rates could reach two inches per hour overnight Friday into Saturday.
Officials advise residents to avoid unnecessary travel. If driving is essential, motorists should carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights. High winds could also lead to tree damage and power outages.
The hazardous conditions are expected to disrupt the Friday evening commute. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to monitor updates and use caution when traveling.
