Medford, OR – Strong winds are expected to intensify across southern Oregon this weekend, bringing gusts as high as 60 mph in key areas. A high wind advisory remains in effect through Saturday evening, impacting travelers and residents in Shasta Valley, East Side Terrain, and the Rogue Valley.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford, gusts of 35 to 60 mph will persist through Saturday morning in Shasta Valley, while the East Side Terrain may experience peak winds Saturday afternoon. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel in high-profile vehicles, and prepare for possible power outages.

The weather timeline highlights additional impacts this weekend, with gusty winds and heavy rain arriving early Saturday across the Cascades and valleys. Coastal areas of Curry and Douglas counties face hazardous beach conditions, with waves up to 24 feet prompting a high surf advisory from 7 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday. Officials warn of dangerous surf zones and potential coastal erosion.

A cold front moving in Saturday evening will bring widespread rain to low-elevation areas and snow at higher peaks above 6,000 feet. Snowfall levels may rise to 7,000 feet by Sunday, reducing snow concerns at lower elevations but bringing slick conditions to mountain passes.

Sunday will see more widespread rain, particularly in Josephine, Siskiyou, and Curry counties, while wind remains a factor in Shasta Valley. Motorists along I-5 and local highways should remain cautious as low visibility from fog and wind-driven rain could create hazardous conditions.
