Oregon – A sharp chill grips the Rogue Valley this morning, with frost forming on rooftops and fields as temperatures slide toward the upper 20s, creating slick patches and a brief but impactful freeze risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m., with temperatures expected to range from 28 to 32 degrees across Jackson and Josephine counties. Calm winds and clear skies are allowing cold air to settle into valleys, increasing frost coverage across Medford, Ashland, and Grants Pass.

Across the Medford area, early readings near the mid-30s are still falling in colder pockets, especially in rural valleys and low-lying terrain. Drivers along I-5 and surrounding routes may encounter isolated slick spots where moisture has lightly frozen. Slow down through shaded areas and bridges.

This freeze poses a direct threat to agriculture and home gardens. Sensitive plants and budding crops can suffer damage quickly at these temperatures. Outdoor plumbing may also be at risk if exposed. Cover plants and protect pipes now to limit impacts.

Conditions improve quickly by afternoon. Sunshine pushes highs near 68 degrees, drying surfaces and restoring safe travel conditions. The weekend brings a notable warm-up, with temperatures reaching near 78 Saturday and approaching 79 Sunday under clear skies.

Early next week stays mild, with highs in the upper 70s before a slight rain chance develops by Tuesday. For now, the focus remains on this morning’s freeze and its immediate impacts.
