Medford, OR – Coastal boaters and mariners off the Oregon coast are being urged to take immediate precautions as gale-force winds and hazardous sea conditions continue to batter the region through Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, multiple advisories remain in effect for waters extending from Florence to Point St. George, including the areas off Coos Bay and Gold Beach. The active Gale Warning is expected to continue until 11 p.m. Monday, with north winds reaching up to 40 knots and gusts peaking at 50 knots in some southern zones. Seas are currently ranging between 9 to 16 feet with intervals of 10 to 14 seconds.
In addition to the current warnings, a Gale Watch and Hazardous Seas Watch have been issued from Monday evening through Tuesday evening. Forecast models suggest that very steep and dangerous sea conditions are likely, particularly affecting both nearshore and offshore waters south of Gold Beach.
Mariners are strongly advised to remain in port or seek protected harbors as visibility is expected to drop and the risk of capsizing or vessel damage remains high. The combination of intense winds and steep waves poses serious danger to smaller craft and commercial vessels alike.
Navigation along these routes should be postponed if possible, and all local vessels are encouraged to monitor NOAA marine forecasts regularly for updates. The full advisory details and hazard area maps are available at https://go.usa.gov/x6hks.
