Pendleton, OR – Strong winds, with gusts up to 85 mph, have swept across eastern Oregon, causing hazardous conditions and travel warnings.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a High Wind Warning through 10 a.m. Thursday, with the most intense gusts reported east of Pendleton near the Umatilla Reservation. Wind speeds may cause downed trees, power outages, and dangerous driving conditions, particularly along Interstate 84 and exposed highways.
According to the NWS, these high winds will continue overnight into Thursday morning, accompanied by rain and breezy conditions. Overnight lows will hover around 43 degrees, with sustained southeast winds of 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor local weather updates.
The forecast for Thursday predicts rain likely after 10 a.m., with highs near 53 degrees and east winds of 8 to 18 mph. Gusts could still reach up to 25 mph. Rain will intensify into Thursday night, with a low around 39 degrees and an 80% chance of precipitation.
Looking ahead to Friday, expect continued rain, a high near 58 degrees, and wind gusts diminishing slightly. Friday night remains wet with lows dropping to 33 degrees. By Saturday, conditions should improve slightly with a 50% chance of rain and highs near 49 degrees.
