Pendleton, Oregon – A heat surge is building across eastern Oregon, with Pendleton set to reach 86°F on Wednesday and near 98°F by Monday. The combination of rising temperatures, clear skies, and light winds could elevate fire danger in dry rangeland areas and along major routes like U.S. Route 395.
According to the National Weather Service, Pendleton will see sunshine and calm conditions Wednesday, with light northwest winds becoming variable into the evening. Thursday and Friday bring even hotter weather—expect 85°F and 89°F highs, respectively, with continued dry skies and minimal wind relief. Fire officials caution residents to avoid open flames and watch for signs of smoke, especially along rural roads.
By Saturday, highs near 92°F will push the region into its hottest stretch so far this month. With no significant cloud cover or precipitation expected, residents should limit outdoor activity during peak sun hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), stay hydrated, and monitor vulnerable populations and pets for signs of heat stress.
Sunset skies will remain mostly clear all week, with overnight lows gradually rising from the upper 40s to low 60s. No thunderstorms or rain chances are in sight through early next week.
Warnings remain in effect for elevated fire risk due to dry fuels and heat buildup. A formal heat advisory may follow by Friday.
