Pendleton, OR – Drivers in northern Oregon are urged to exercise caution as a Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect through Thursday morning. Reduced visibility and slick roads are expected, especially along I-84 and other routes through the Northern Blue Mountains and Columbia Basin.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), visibility could drop below a quarter mile in areas of freezing fog, creating hazardous travel conditions. Motorists are advised to slow down, use low beams, and increase the following distance to avoid accidents. The advisory, issued late Wednesday, impacts major travel routes during the Thanksgiving holiday rush.

The freezing fog will begin to dissipate by mid-morning, giving way to partly sunny skies on Thanksgiving afternoon with a high of 44°F. Evening temperatures will drop to 22°F, bringing another chance for patchy fog overnight into Black Friday.

Looking ahead, Friday will see mostly sunny conditions with a high of 41°F, but overnight fog is likely to return as temperatures dip to 22°F. The weekend forecast predicts partly sunny skies on Saturday, reaching a high near 41°F, while Sunday remains similar with morning fog clearing into afternoon sunshine.

Travelers are urged to monitor local forecasts, especially during early morning hours when fog tends to linger. The NWS recommends using alternate travel times to avoid peak freezing conditions.
