Odell, Oregon – Temperatures could dip as low as 28°F overnight in Oregon’s Upper Hood River Valley, prompting a Freeze Warning that may threaten crops, gardens, and exposed pipes through early Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, the warning goes into effect at midnight and lasts until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Sub-freezing temperatures between 28 and 32 degrees are expected, particularly in areas above 1,000 feet elevation between Odell and Parkdale.
Sensitive vegetation is at risk, especially tender spring crops and blossoming fruit trees common to the region. Residents are urged to protect plants by bringing them indoors or covering them with lightweight fabrics like sheets or blankets. Outdoor water systems—especially in agricultural zones—should be wrapped, drained, or left to drip slowly to avoid freezing.
The Upper Hood River Valley has seen late-season freezes before, but this cold snap may catch some growers off guard. “Even a light freeze can stress early fruit,” one local orchard manager noted during a similar event in 2022.
Warnings remain in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to rebound by midday. More advisories are possible if cold conditions persist into midweek.
