Pendleton, OR – A significant weather system is sweeping through the Pendleton region, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds today that could severely impact local travel. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, warning of snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches on the Upper East Slopes of the Washington Cascades, starting at elevations above 4,000 feet, and on the Northern Blues above 4,500 feet.

According to the National Weather Service, these conditions are expected to persist through the afternoon. Gusty winds of 45 to 50 mph will accompany the snowfall, creating areas of blowing snow that could sharply reduce visibility on key mountain routes. Commuters and travelers should exercise caution, as reduced visibility and slick roads pose serious safety risks. Those planning trips through these areas should check updated road conditions at local DOT sites and be prepared for delays.

Tonight’s forecast includes continued breezy conditions with rain tapering after 10 p.m., followed by a low around 36°F. Winds will remain active, with speeds up to 28 mph. Looking ahead, Pendleton will see temperatures hovering in the low to mid-50s throughout the week, with sunny and mostly clear skies resuming by Wednesday. However, the potential for patchy freezing fog remains through early Wednesday, impacting morning commutes.
