Medford, OR – Drivers in Medford and surrounding areas are urged to take caution today as dense fog and poor air quality continue to impact local roadways.
The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory and Air Stagnation Advisory, both in effect until 10 a.m. Friday. Visibility is expected to drop to a quarter mile or less, particularly in valleys throughout Jackson County, including Medford, Rogue River, and Eagle Point. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles to prevent accidents.
According to the National Weather Service, stagnant air conditions are trapping pollutants near the surface, leading to poor air quality. Residents with respiratory issues should limit outdoor activities and consult physicians if symptoms worsen.
Looking ahead to the weekend, patchy fog will linger through Saturday morning, giving way to partly sunny skies and highs near 44 degrees. Saturday night could bring freezing fog as temperatures dip to 29 degrees. Sunday offers similar conditions, with morning fog clearing by afternoon and highs in the mid-40s.
By Monday, freezing fog is expected before 10 a.m., followed by mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching 48 degrees. Patchy fog will continue into early next week, though improving air quality may bring relief by Tuesday.
Drivers should remain vigilant on foggy roadways such as Interstate 5 and local highways, where visibility could be especially limited. Residents are encouraged to check weather.gov for updates and consider delaying travel until conditions improve.
