Yachats, OR – A 2.6-magnitude earthquake struck about 127 kilometers west of Yachats, Oregon, on Tuesday. The quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers, which may have dampened its effects onshore.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor occurred at 6:17 a.m. local time and was not widely felt along the coast. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were no reports of damage or injuries, though minor shaking may have been noticed by residents or in coastal towns nearby.

The quake, while relatively small, highlights the region’s seismic activity. The Cascadia Subduction Zone, off the Oregon coast, is known for frequent earthquakes. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about earthquake safety and preparedness, as more significant tremors can happen along this fault line.

The USGS welcomes citizen reports of tremors to improve data on seismic impact. If you felt shaking, visit their website to submit a felt report.
