Bandon, OR – A 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the Oregon coast, approximately 186 kilometers west-northwest of Bandon on Sunday. The earthquake occurred at 7:24 a.m. local time, at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

While the tremor was relatively small and offshore, some residents along the coast may have felt light shaking. The USGS encourages anyone who experienced the tremor to submit a “Did You Feel It?” report, which helps gather information on the earthquake’s impact.

Earthquakes of this size rarely cause damage, but they serve as a reminder of the seismic activity along the Pacific Coast. Coastal Oregon is part of the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a geologically active area where earthquakes are common.

So far, no damage or injuries have been reported from the earthquake. Residents in the region should remain prepared for potential seismic activity and review their earthquake readiness plans.
