Medford, OR – Coastal visitors in southern Oregon are being urged to stay cautious as sneaker waves are expected through Tuesday morning. These unpredictable waves, capable of surging far onto beaches and dragging unsuspecting visitors into the ocean, are most likely along beaches in Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties.
According to the National Weather Service, the threat will persist overnight into Tuesday, creating hazardous conditions, particularly when visibility is limited after sunset. Beachgoers should avoid standing on logs, jetties, or rocks, as strong waves can easily knock people down or sweep them into the water.
Visitors are reminded never to turn their back on the ocean. If someone is pulled into the water, calling 911 immediately is critical, as self-rescue attempts could lead to additional risks.
Looking ahead, Medford and the surrounding areas will also see patchy freezing fog starting Monday night and continuing into Wednesday morning. Daytime highs will remain in the low 40s to 50s, while overnight lows are expected to dip into the high 20s to low 30s. Calm winds will accompany sunny afternoons after fog clears.
Drivers should exercise caution during early morning commutes when visibility may drop significantly. With clear skies later in the week, locals can expect slightly warmer temperatures by Friday.
