Pendleton, OR – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of Oregon and Washington, with snow and freezing rain expected to create hazardous travel conditions through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, up to one inch of snow and one-tenth of an inch of ice could accumulate in the Lower Columbia Basin, including Tri-Cities, Boardman, and Hermiston, until 10 a.m. PST Sunday. Light snow will begin Saturday evening, transitioning to freezing rain overnight before turning to rain by late Sunday morning.
The Foothills of the Blue Mountains, including Walla Walla, Pendleton, and Dayton, are also under advisory until Sunday morning, with similar accumulations of snow and ice expected, particularly in the Walla Walla Valley.
In the Kittitas Valley, including Ellensburg, snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches could make travel difficult until 10 a.m. Sunday. Meanwhile, the Lower Slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades, including Cle Elum, face up to 6 inches of snow and light freezing rain through 4 a.m. Monday.
Drivers are urged to slow down and check road conditions at tripcheck.com in Oregon and wsdot.wa.gov in Washington before traveling. Use caution on icy surfaces, including sidewalks and driveways.
