Omaha, NE – Frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chills as low as -30 degrees are gripping Nebraska today. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure during the ongoing extreme cold warning, set to expire at noon. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in under 30 minutes in these conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, areas across northeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa will experience slightly improving conditions this evening. However, snow showers are expected to move into the Omaha area late tonight and into Wednesday morning, with accumulations of up to an inch possible along Interstate 80.

Temperatures will climb to a high of 34 degrees on Friday, but until then, the cold remains a significant hazard. Wednesday’s high is forecasted at 34 degrees, with light snow falling throughout the day. Roads may become slick, so commuters are advised to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time.

The five-day forecast shows improving conditions by the weekend. Thursday and Friday will feature partly sunny skies, with highs of 24 and 34 degrees respectively. The weekend promises milder temperatures, with Saturday’s high nearing 35 degrees, offering some respite from the bitter cold.

Residents should continue taking precautions, such as dressing in layers, wearing gloves, and protecting exposed skin. To prevent frozen pipes, keep faucets dripping overnight.

Stay updated on local weather alerts and plan accordingly to avoid unnecessary exposure to extreme conditions.
