Tulsa, OK – Strong south winds are sweeping across eastern Oklahoma today as a cold front approaches, bringing gusts up to 40 mph. Residents along I-35 and surrounding areas should secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel in high-profile vehicles, especially on east-west roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, gusty winds will develop throughout the day, peaking in the afternoon. High-profile vehicles, including trucks and trailers, are particularly at risk of instability on highways such as I-35 and I-44. Local authorities are advising caution, as unsecured items such as outdoor furniture could become projectiles, causing damage or injury.

Today’s high is expected to reach 73°F under mostly sunny skies, with winds sustained at 20 mph and higher gusts later in the evening. Tonight, temperatures will drop to the mid-40s as winds shift slightly northward.

Looking ahead to Thanksgiving week, temperatures will gradually cool. Monday’s high will reach 53°F with lighter winds from the north. By Thanksgiving Day, temperatures will dip to a high of 47°F with calm and sunny conditions expected. Residents are encouraged to prepare for cooler mornings, with lows in the 30s midweek.

To stay safe, avoid burning outdoors, as wind-driven sparks could lead to fires. Keep travel plans flexible and check for updates on local road conditions. For ongoing weather alerts, visit the National Weather Service website or follow their updates on social media.
