Tulsa, OK – Dry grass, blue skies, and gusty winds — classic signs of early November across eastern Oklahoma — are combining today to raise fire weather concerns. While no major hazards are expected, conditions could turn risky for outdoor burning as winds strengthen through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, south winds will increase to 15–25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Warm temperatures in the upper 70s and low humidity near 35% will dry out vegetation, especially in areas that haven’t seen rain in over a week. The agency warns that even small fires could spread quickly in grassy or open areas after 11 a.m.

Residents are urged to postpone any outdoor burning and secure loose materials that could blow away. Those traveling along I-44 and U.S. 412 may also encounter brief crosswind gusts during the afternoon.

Forecasters say calmer weather returns Wednesday and Thursday, with highs near 75°F and lighter winds. Another cold front is expected Friday, bringing a drop in temperatures and the season’s first true November chill by the weekend.

After all, this week’s warmth feels like a last gasp of fall comfort before cooler, drier air settles in. For now, stay weather-aware — and avoid sparks or flames until the winds ease.
