Tulsa, Oklahoma – Residents across northeast Oklahoma should brace for rapidly intensifying storms through 5 p.m. Tuesday, with large hail, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes all possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, storms moving in from central and northern Oklahoma are expected to strengthen as they track northeast at 35 mph. Affected areas include Tulsa, Bartlesville, Muskogee, McAlester, and Fort Smith, with the most severe threat concentrated in the late afternoon hours.

Half-dollar-sized hail and wind gusts reaching 60 mph are possible in the warned zones. The NWS warns that isolated tornadoes may also develop, particularly in areas under higher-risk polygons. Residents should monitor updates closely and identify safe shelter locations in advance.

Drivers are urged to delay travel if possible, especially along highways near Tulsa and into northwest Arkansas. Power outages and tree damage could follow any stronger cells. Officials stress the importance of having multiple ways to receive weather warnings—including NOAA radios, mobile alerts, and local media.

The severe threat is expected to diminish after 5 p.m., but new warnings could be issued if storms redevelop. Stay weather-aware and be prepared to take shelter immediately if alerts are upgraded.
