Tulsa, Oklahoma – Drivers in northeast Oklahoma face a dangerous Tuesday as waves of thunderstorms bring heavy rain, flash flooding, and strong winds through early Wednesday. A Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday, with the National Weather Service warning of widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches and isolated pockets up to 4 inches.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, severe storms are likely to develop through Tuesday evening and intensify overnight. Flood-prone areas near highways including I-44 and U.S. Route 75 may see rapid water rise, especially in low-lying zones around Tulsa, Muskogee, and Bartlesville. Excess runoff could lead to flooding of creeks, rivers, and streets. Travel may become hazardous, particularly late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

Residents in Claremore, Tahlequah, Okmulgee, and surrounding towns should avoid driving through high water and be ready to act quickly if flood warnings are issued. Keep phones charged, and avoid unnecessary travel during active storms.

Periods of heavy rain may linger into Wednesday morning before skies gradually clear. The unsettled weather pattern will likely redevelop later in the week with more storms by Thursday night into Friday.
