Norman, OK – A wind advisory is in effect for much of Oklahoma from 10 a.m. Thursday until midnight as strong south winds move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, wind speeds will range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Affected areas include central, northern, northwestern, southwestern, and western Oklahoma, impacting cities such as Enid, Lawton, Weatherford, and Altus.

The strong winds may cause unsecured objects to be blown around, and tree limbs could be downed, potentially leading to isolated power outages. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should exercise extra caution, especially on open roads where gusts could create hazardous conditions.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor furniture and decorations to prevent wind damage. Additionally, those traveling should be prepared for sudden gusts that could make driving difficult, particularly for semi-trucks and trailers.

The advisory remains in place until midnight, at which point wind speeds are expected to decrease. The National Weather Service advises staying informed of weather updates and taking necessary precautions to stay safe in windy conditions.
