Tulsa, OK – Strong winds and dry conditions will create hazardous weather across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas on Friday, raising concerns over fire danger and travel safety. Residents should prepare for wind gusts up to 60 mph, which could damage trees, power lines, and make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, indicating extreme fire danger. The combination of low humidity (18-28%) and strong southwest winds (30-50 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph) will create conditions for rapid fire spread. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Additionally, a High Wind Watch is in effect for much of eastern Oklahoma, including Tulsa, Muskogee, and Pawnee. Winds will increase by midday Friday and peak in the afternoon, making travel hazardous, particularly along I-44 and U.S. Highway 75. Power outages may also occur due to falling tree limbs.

Five-Day Forecast for Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma

• Friday: High near 74°F. Breezy with southwest winds 25-30 mph, gusting up to 60 mph. Fire danger is high.
