Oklahoma City, OK – Tornado sirens could sound in the early morning hours as severe storms sweep across central and western Oklahoma under an overnight tornado watch.

According to the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Tornado Watch 381 went into effect at 10:05 p.m. Friday and remains active until 6 a.m. Saturday for 35 counties, including Oklahoma, Cleveland, Canadian, Payne, and Comanche. Forecasters warn the setup is favorable for tornado development, along with damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail larger than golf balls.

The watch covers a broad area from the Texas border to northern Oklahoma, including Blaine, Custer, Garfield, Grady, Kiowa, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, Seminole, and Woodward counties. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially while asleep.

Emergency managers stress the risk of nighttime tornadoes, which are harder to detect and deadlier due to delayed response times. If a warning is issued, seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor—ideally a storm shelter or basement.

This round of storms is part of a larger severe weather pattern impacting the Southern Plains this weekend. Additional watches or warnings could follow as the system moves east.

Stay tuned overnight for real-time updates. Warnings remain possible through sunrise.
