Oklahoma City, OK – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for much of central and southern Oklahoma until 9 a.m. Sunday as a line of intense thunderstorms threatens the region. The National Weather Service issued the watch early Sunday morning, warning of potential damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain.
According to the National Weather Service, the watch includes 30 counties, stretching from Atoka and Bryan counties in the south to Logan and Payne counties in the north. The affected area also includes large cities like Oklahoma City, Norman, and Lawton. The storms could produce wind gusts up to 70 mph, large hail, and heavy rainfall, making travel hazardous and leading to the possibility of flash flooding.
Residents are advised to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions and to have a plan in place in case of severe weather. Drivers should avoid traveling in areas experiencing heavy rain or hail and be prepared for possible power outages. The severe threat is expected to diminish by mid-morning Sunday, but additional advisories may follow depending on storm development.
