Guymon, Okla. – Severe thunderstorms could bring damaging wind gusts and large hail to the Oklahoma Panhandle Monday afternoon and evening, with a watch now active until 9 p.m. CDT for Beaver, Cimarron, and Texas counties.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, scattered storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail up to ping-pong ball size are likely to develop through the evening hours. The watch was issued at 1:55 p.m. CDT and includes all three counties in the Oklahoma Panhandle.

Residents in Guymon, Beaver, and Boise City should remain alert to rapidly changing conditions. Power outages, tree damage, and travel disruptions on US-412 and US-54 are possible during intense cells. Emergency officials advise securing outdoor items, charging mobile devices, and staying indoors away from windows during warnings.

This system is part of a broader pattern impacting the southern Plains, with similar activity stretching into southwest Kansas and northeast New Mexico. While tornadoes are not the primary threat, isolated spin-ups can’t be ruled out with stronger cells.

Storm activity is expected to taper off late Monday night. Additional watches or warnings may be issued as storms develop.
