Oklahoma City, Okla. – Widespread heavy rain could flood low-lying roads and creeks across Oklahoma through late Tuesday night, with some areas expecting up to 3 inches of rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Flood Watch remains in effect for most of central, western, and southern Oklahoma—including Oklahoma City, Norman, Lawton, and Enid—until midnight. Counties from Harper to Bryan and as far south as Wilbarger and Wichita Falls in northern Texas are included in the alert.

Excessive rainfall may trigger flash flooding in urban areas, rural roads, and low-water crossings. Area streams and rivers are already elevated from previous rain, increasing the risk of overflow. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways, especially at night when visibility is reduced.

In Oklahoma City, high-water rescues were reported last month during a similar rain event. Rural areas near the Canadian and Washita Rivers are especially vulnerable, with quick rises possible if downpours persist. Drivers along I-40 and I-35 should watch for ponding and slow down during heavy rain bands.

The Flood Watch is expected to expire by 1 a.m. Wednesday, but additional alerts could follow if storms redevelop overnight. Residents are advised to keep phones charged and have alternate routes ready.
