McCurtain County, OK – A flash flood warning is in effect for central McCurtain County, Oklahoma, until 5 p.m. Thursday due to heavy rainfall that has caused life-threatening flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, between 4 and 6 inches of rain have fallen over the past 12 hours. Although the heaviest rain has ended, water levels continue to rise along the Glover and Little Rivers, creating dangerous conditions.

Officials warn that flash flooding is impacting creeks, streams, highways, and urban areas, including Idabel, Broken Bow, and Wright City. Areas such as Hochatown, Garvin, and Eagletown are also at risk. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and seek higher ground if necessary.

Floodwaters can be especially dangerous for drivers. Authorities emphasize the importance of the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” rule, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.

Residents should monitor local weather alerts and prepare for additional flooding in low-lying areas. Updates will be provided as conditions develop.
