Norman, OK – A Red Flag Warning is in effect across western and central Oklahoma, as well as western North Texas, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CDT today due to extreme fire weather conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, dangerous conditions will persist throughout the day, driven by southwest to west winds of 30 to 45 mph, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph. Relative humidity levels are expected to drop as low as 10 percent, further increasing the risk of rapid fire spread. Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 72 degrees.

Officials warn that any fires that develop will likely spread quickly and be difficult to contain. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and to take precautions to prevent accidental ignitions. The fire environment rating has been classified as 7 out of 10, indicating a significant wildfire threat.

Emergency management teams are closely monitoring conditions, and residents are advised to stay updated on local fire restrictions and alerts. Authorities recommend securing outdoor objects that could be blown away by strong winds and remaining prepared for potential evacuations in case of emergency.

The Red Flag Warning is expected to remain in effect until 10 p.m., with fire risk decreasing as winds weaken overnight.
