Oklahoma City, OK – A 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck southeast of Sparks early Friday morning, briefly shaking the region near Oklahoma City.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred at 12:14 a.m. local time, with its epicenter about 8 kilometers southeast of Sparks and a depth of 5 kilometers. Residents near Oklahoma City and in Lincoln County felt light tremors, according to USGS’s “Did You Feel It?” platform.

This event follows another earthquake Thursday evening near Edmond, northeast of Oklahoma City. That quake registered a magnitude of 2.6 and had a depth of 6.6 kilometers. Its epicenter was 5 kilometers east-northeast of Edmond, closer to the city’s outskirts.

No damage or injuries have been reported from either quake. Oklahoma remains one of the most seismically active states, with frequent small quakes linked to oil and gas production activities. Experts remind residents to stay prepared for potential tremors by securing heavy items and having emergency kits ready.

Seismologists and local agencies continue to monitor seismic activity near Oklahoma City. Residents are encouraged to report shaking on the USGS platform to improve earthquake tracking.
