Tulsa, OK – As spring storms roll into eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas this evening, residents should brace for thunderstorms with dangerous lightning. The National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for the area through tonight, with thunderstorms continuing to build through the late afternoon and into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the thunderstorm risk is limited but includes significant lightning activity. The storms are expected to be most intense across far eastern and southeastern Oklahoma, as well as western Arkansas. As a surface boundary shifts through the region, the precipitation will taper off by mid-evening, but some areas may still experience brief, localized showers. Severe weather or heavy rainfall is not anticipated.

For Tulsa, temperatures will hover around 50°F, with mostly clear skies following the storm. As the evening progresses, conditions should improve, but the possibility of scattered showers remains through Sunday. For those traveling along I-44 or other nearby roadways, be aware of potential slick spots due to brief rainfall or lightning, especially during evening commutes. Drivers are urged to stay alert and proceed with caution.

Looking ahead, the weather will calm by Sunday, with highs reaching 73°F and winds becoming lighter. However, thunderstorm potential returns Monday night as an area of low pressure moves in from the Plains.

Five-Day Forecast:

  • Sunday: High 73°F, Mostly Sunny, Light Winds
  • Monday: High 74°F, Sunny with Mild Winds
  • Tuesday: High 68°F, Showers Likely with 80% Precipitation
  • Wednesday: High 68°F, Chance of Showers and Thunderstorms
  • Thursday: High 70°F, Mostly Clear, Light Winds
