Tulsa, Oklahoma – Heat indices could soar to 105 degrees across eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas on Tuesday, prompting heat stress concerns during the afternoon and early evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the most intense heat will occur between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., with high humidity and temperatures in the upper 80s to mid-90s driving heat index values into the danger zone. Cities like Tulsa, Muskogee, Fort Smith, and McAlester are all expected to reach or exceed 103° by late afternoon.

In Tulsa, the heat index is forecast to hit 105° by 3 p.m., while Fort Smith could stay above 100° from noon through 6 p.m. Fayetteville, Bartlesville, and Rogers will also feel the strain of extreme humidity combined with high heat.

The NWS urges residents to monitor for signs of heat exhaustion and stroke—dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat—and take precautions such as drinking plenty of water, wearing light-colored clothing, and limiting outdoor activity. Frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas are strongly recommended.

This early summer heat wave is expected to ease slightly by Wednesday but will remain elevated. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
