Lawton, Oklahoma – Residents across southwest Oklahoma and North Texas could see roads underwater and creeks overflowing before sunrise Saturday as a Flood Watch takes effect overnight, threatening neighborhoods from Lawton to Wichita Falls with rapidly rising water.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the Flood Watch begins at 1 a.m. Saturday and lasts through Saturday evening for more than a dozen Oklahoma counties, including Comanche, Jackson, Bryan, and Tillman, and extends into northern Texas counties such as Wichita, Knox, and Archer. Forecasters warn that heavy rain from thunderstorms may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas, with water quickly inundating poorly drained neighborhoods and low-water crossings.

In cities like Lawton, Duncan, Altus, and Durant, local emergency officials urge residents to avoid travel on flooded roads and never drive through high water. Major routes including US-62, US-183, and State Highway 7 could be impacted if runoff overwhelms drainage systems. Wichita Falls and Vernon, Texas, are also at risk for street flooding and potential road closures if storms stall.

Preparedness tips include charging mobile devices, keeping emergency kits ready, and monitoring local alerts overnight. This event could rival past spring flood events in the region. The Flood Watch is set to expire Saturday evening, but additional warnings may follow if storms persist. Residents should stay alert for updates and be ready to act quickly if water rises.
