Cleveland, OH – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for parts of Northeast Ohio and Northwestern Pennsylvania from late Thursday through Monday morning. Heavy lake-effect snow is expected, with accumulations exceeding 8 inches possible.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include Ashtabula, Lake, and Crawford counties, as well as northern and southern Erie counties in Pennsylvania. Snowfall could reach rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in localized bands, significantly reducing visibility to as low as one-quarter mile. The storm may disrupt Friday commutes and post-holiday travel on Interstates 90, 86, and 79.
Officials urge residents to prepare for hazardous conditions. Those who must travel should carry a winter storm kit, including tire chains, blankets, water, and a first-aid kit. Drivers should expect rapidly changing weather and road conditions, with some areas experiencing dry weather while others face heavy snowfall.
Meteorologists advise monitoring updated forecasts as the storm’s intensity and snow band placement remain uncertain. Travelers should delay plans if possible and exercise extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.
